Junk removal in Hermosa Beach
because two a year runs out fast.

Same-day hauling across Hermosa Beach, from the walk streets and the Strand to the flats east of Pacific Coast Highway, quoted flat before we start.

In short

Hermosa Beach residential collection is handled by Athens Services, and residents get two free bulky item pickups per calendar year, scheduled on (855) 557-1007 or through Athens customer service on (888) 336-6100. Additional pickups are charged. Two a year is the tightest allowance in the beach cities, so most Hermosa clear-outs of any size need a hauler. We take it from inside the house, off the walk streets and down the stairs, at one flat volume-based price.

Hermosa is a small, dense, hard-to-access city. Thirty-foot lots, three-story houses, walk streets, alleys, and almost no off-street parking anywhere near the beach. Add a two-pickup annual allowance and you have a city where a lot of stuff sits in a garage because moving it is genuinely difficult.

That is the work. Athens will take a couch and a mattress from your curb twice a year. Everything else, and anything that has to come down a stair or along a walk street, is ours. See how our pricing works.

The free option first

Two free pickups.
Spend them well.

Athens Services holds the residential franchise in Hermosa Beach and includes two free bulky item pickups per calendar year for residential customers. You schedule by calling (855) 557-1007 or submitting a request through Athens, or reach customer service on (888) 336-6100. Accepted items are the usual household list: couches, chairs, washers, dryers, water heaters, mattresses, refrigerators, rugs and tree trunks. Beyond the two free visits, additional bulky pickups are available for a fee.

Two things follow from that. One, save your free pickups for genuinely awkward single items rather than burning one on something you could get in a car. Two, if you are clearing a garage, a rental or an estate, do not try to spread it across a two-pickup allowance over two years. Get it done in one visit. Athens collection is also curbside, so a walk-street or Strand address still has to move the item to a collection point, and the crew will not come inside or up a stair.

On the ground

Thirty-foot lots
and everything vertical.

Hermosa Beach is built on narrow lots, so houses go up rather than out. Three stories with one internal stair is the norm in the Sand Section, often with the living space on the top floor and the garage at grade. Getting a sectional or a king mattress down that stair is a real piece of work and it is the single most common thing we are called for here.

The walk streets are the other constraint. No vehicle access, so everything is carried out to a cross street. Same on the Strand, with a bike path to cross. Alleys serve most of the flats and they are single lane with bins on both sides, so we stage carefully and move fast.

Parking is the practical killer. Hermosa has very little of it and enforcement is active, which means we plan the truck position before we arrive and we do not leave a vehicle sitting while we sort. Sorting happens in the garage, then the load goes out in one go.

Where it goes

The disposal chain
for a Hermosa load.

Donation first for anything usable. Mattresses go into California's state-funded mattress recycling program, which has around twenty permanent no-cost collection centers across LA County. Electronics are universal waste in California, banned from the trash since the state's exemption ended in February 2006, and go to a certified handler. Household hazardous material goes to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center; Hermosa's nearest is Hyperion at 7660 W Imperial Hwy Gate B in Playa del Rey, open Saturday and Sunday 9 to 3, free to LA County residents, capped at 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Remodel debris goes to a certified mixed C&D processor rather than a landfill.

Hermosa Beach
questions

Mostly about the two-pickup limit and the stairs.

How many free bulky item pickups does Hermosa Beach give?

Two per calendar year through Athens Services, scheduled on (855) 557-1007. Additional bulky pickups beyond those two are charged as an extra service.

What will Athens take on a Hermosa Beach bulky pickup?

Couches, chairs, washers, dryers, water heaters, mattresses, refrigerators, rugs and tree trunks, from the curb. It will not take construction debris or hazardous material, and the crew will not come inside or down a stair.

Can you get furniture down three flights in a Sand Section house?

That is our most common Hermosa job. We break down what needs it, protect the stairwell, and carry out to the truck. The stair run is priced into the flat quote upfront.

Do you work walk streets and the Strand?

Yes. No vehicle can reach those addresses, so we carry the load to the nearest accessible street. We look at the distance before quoting so the number does not move.

How much does junk removal cost in Hermosa Beach?

We price by volume plus access, as one flat number quoted on site before we start, with no hourly meter. See how our pricing works.
