Appliances are the category where the free options break down fastest, because the moment an appliance contains refrigerant it becomes regulated, and half the city programs in LA County either charge for it, refuse it, or make you drain it first.
| City of Los Angeles | LASAN bulky-item pickup takes large appliances free at the curb, unlimited, on your regular trash day. Commercial appliances excluded. |
|---|---|
| Burbank | Curbside on your trash day, with a per-item special handling fee applied to refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and water heaters. |
| Beverly Hills | Refrigerators and AC units accepted only without refrigerant. Alley pickup free, curb or parkway pickup charged. |
| Culver City | Two free collections a year for single-family homes. Appliances must be drained before pickup. |
| Torrance | One free pickup a year, up to twenty items, but metal appliances are excluded from it. |
| Inglewood | Bulky pickup free and unlimited, but appliances and e-waste are arranged separately through Public Works. |
| Glendale | Four free appointments a year, appliances and TVs included, booked three business days ahead. |

The practical consequence for you is simple: a fridge left at the curb in a city that excludes freon appliances does not get collected, it gets tagged, and eventually it becomes an illegal dumping problem attached to your address. Send it out with a hauler who routes it to a recovery facility instead.
Once the refrigerant is out, an appliance is genuinely valuable material — steel cabinet, copper windings, aluminum fins, a compressor. It goes to scrap. Nothing about an appliance belongs in a hole in Sylmar.

Our own crews on Los Angeles County jobs. Side yards, narrow walkways and the back of the property is where most of the work actually happens.
Kitchen: refrigerators, freezers, wine fridges, ranges and cooktops, wall
ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, range hoods, trash compactors.
Laundry: washers, dryers, stacked units, utility sinks.
Utility: water heaters, furnaces, wall and window AC units, mini-split heads,
dehumidifiers, water softeners, pool pumps.
Commercial: reach-in and walk-in refrigeration, ice machines, prep tables,
commercial ranges and fryers, vending machines.
Appliances rarely leave alone either. A kitchen remodel produces cabinetry, countertop and tile at the same time, which is construction debris removal and priced by weight. A garage clear-out that turns up a second fridge and a dead freezer is a garage cleanout. One visit, one price.
Remodels in Sherman Oaks and Studio City, apartment turnovers in Koreatown, hillside water heaters above Silver Lake, restaurant equipment in Downtown, and everything in between across the areas we serve.

This is why a fridge is not just another heavy item, and why some city bulky programs will not take one until it has already been drained.
Including which LA cities will take it free and which will not.
Yes. Anything containing refrigerant — fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, some water coolers and wine fridges — is routed to a facility that recovers the refrigerant properly rather than being crushed with it inside. That is a legal requirement in California, not a courtesy, and it is the reason several city programs refuse freon appliances at the curb outright.
In the City of Los Angeles, yes: large appliances go on LASAN's free bulky-item pickup, curbside, on your regular trash day, booked a business day ahead through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. Outside LA City it varies sharply. Burbank charges a per-item special handling fee on refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and water heaters. Beverly Hills accepts refrigerators and AC units only if the refrigerant has already been removed. Culver City requires appliances to be drained first. Torrance excludes metal appliances from its free pickup entirely, and Inglewood arranges them separately through Public Works.
We can unplug, uncouple a standard washer hose and slide a unit out. We do not cut gas lines or hard-wired electrical — a gas range or a hard-wired cooktop needs a licensed plumber or electrician to disconnect it first, and any hauler who offers to do it themselves is telling you something. Water heaters must be cold, drained and disconnected before we lift them.
Yes, and that is most of the reason people call. A full-size fridge down a narrow staircase, a stacked washer-dryer out of a second-floor closet, a water heater from a hillside crawlspace. Free curbside programs will not do any of it.
Recycled. An appliance is mostly steel, copper and aluminum, and it has real scrap value, so landfilling one is both wasteful and expensive — Sunshine Canyon charges per appliance on top of its per-ton rates. Refrigerant is recovered first, then the shell goes to scrap.
Microwaves are classified as universal waste in California and cannot legally go in household trash, so they travel as e-waste along with anything else with a circuit board.
Yes. Restaurant fridges, walk-in panels, ranges, prep tables and ice machines, usually out of hours around service. LASAN's residential bulky pickup explicitly excludes commercial appliances, so there is no free route for these. It runs as commercial junk removal.
Flat, quoted before we arrive, based on the volume and the number of units. Several appliances from one property price better together than one at a time. See how our pricing works.
