Hand-carry hauling across Silver Lake, from the houses below street level around the reservoir to the duplexes on Sunset, quoted flat before we start.

Silver Lake is part of the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free, unlimited and curbside, booked through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. The Silver Lake complication is direction: a large share of houses here sit below the street, so everything has to be carried up a long stair run rather than down, which is slower and needs more people. Add narrow roads around the reservoir with nowhere to stop. That is the work we do, at one flat volume-based price.
Carrying furniture up is harder than carrying it down, and Silver Lake is full of houses where up is the only direction. Mid-century homes built into the slope below the road, with the entry at street level and the living space descending two or three floors, are the classic case. A fridge or a sofa bed from the lowest floor is a genuine job.
We plan it properly: enough crew, breakdown where needed, stair and wall protection, and a truck sized to a road that may be single-lane. One flat number after the walk-through. See how our pricing works.
LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free and unlimited for single-family residents. It is booked on MyLA311, the online form, or 1-800-773-2489, and collected on your regular trash day with at least one business day's notice. It accepts furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, rolled and tied carpet, doors, large wood pieces and e-waste including TVs, computers and monitors. It refuses automotive parts and used oil, construction materials including concrete and dirt, commercial appliances, paint, solvents and chemicals, medicines and needles, and fluorescent tubes.
Use it if you can get your items to the curb. In Silver Lake that is the sticking point twice over. First, the vertical distance: below-grade houses mean a long carry up. Second, the roads: many streets around the reservoir and up toward the ridge are narrow with cars on both sides and no turnaround, so there is limited space to stack items without blocking traffic, and anything left out without a confirmed collection is illegal dumping.

The Silver Lake hills produced a distinctive housing pattern: the entry and carport at street level, and the house descending below it. That means the whole load comes up. Stair runs of two or three stories, sometimes with a turn at each landing, sometimes with an exterior stair open on one side. It is slower and it takes more hands, and we say that in the quote rather than after.
Roads around the reservoir and up the ridge are narrow, curving and parked solid, with few turnarounds. We size the truck to the street and shuttle when we need to. Some properties are only reachable via a shared or private drive that a large vehicle cannot enter at all.
The neighborhood also has a lot of renovation. Mid-century houses being reworked produce drywall, tile, cabinetry and old fixtures, none of which can go to the curb, all of which are legally required to go to a certified processor. Down on Sunset and Silver Lake Boulevard the stock turns to duplexes, small apartment buildings and small businesses with alley access.

Our own crews on Los Angeles County jobs. The junk removal we run in Silver Lake looks like this too: side yards, narrow walkways and the back of the property is where the work actually is.
Donation first. Mid-century furniture in particular is worth placing rather than tipping, and we sort for that. Mattresses go into California's state-funded recycling program. Electronics are universal waste in California and go to a certified handler. Household hazardous material goes to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center, and the closest is LA-Glendale at 4600 Colorado Blvd — free, but Saturday only, 9 to 3, and a state photo ID is required at the security gate. Renovation debris goes to a City-certified mixed construction and demolition processing facility, hauled by a permitted hauler, as the City of Los Angeles requires by ordinance; American Reclamation nearby runs an audited 80.75% recycling rate and East Valley Diversion 78.20%.

We are on these streets constantly because we are already next door: Echo Park, Los Feliz, Hollywood, Glendale, Downtown LA. If your job straddles two of them it is still one visit and one number. The full list is on areas we serve.

We are a service-area business with no yard or storefront, so there is nothing to drive to — the truck comes to you. The whole list is on areas we serve.
Below-grade stair carries, mid-century renovations and hillside yards.
Couches, sectionals, mattresses in the same trip, beds, desks and wardrobes carried down rather than dragged.
Drywall, lumber, tile and concrete, hauled to a certified C&D processor.
The whole garage in one visit. We sort, donate what is usable and sweep the slab.
Brush, palm fronds, sod, soil and storm debris, priced by weight.
Fridges, washers and AC units. Refrigerant units are handled as universal waste.
Booked and cleared the same day, most days, across LA County.
Stairs, roads and renovation debris.
Yes. That is the standard Silver Lake job. We bring enough crew for the climb, protect the stair and walls, and break the item down where that is safer than carrying it whole. The carry is priced in upfront.
We check first and size the vehicle to the street. Some roads have no turnaround and some private drives take nothing large, in which case we shuttle to a bigger truck parked further out.
To a City-certified mixed C&D processing facility, hauled by a permitted hauler. That is required by LA city ordinance, not optional. American Reclamation nearby is certified at an audited 80.75%. See construction debris removal.
The LA-Glendale S.A.F.E. Center at 4600 Colorado Blvd, free, but Saturday only 9 to 3, and bring a state photo ID because the site is inside a water reclamation plant. The limit is 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit.
Usually. We are open Monday to Saturday 24 hours and Sunday 1pm to 10pm. Call or text (323) 230-0777 and we will tell you honestly whether today works.
Word for word from Google. Nothing tidied.
