LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free and unlimited for single-family residents. Book it on MyLA311, the online form, or the 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489, give an itemised list, and put the items at the curb for your regular trash day with at least one business day's notice. Furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, rolled and tied carpet, doors, large wood and e-waste including TVs and monitors are all accepted. Automotive parts, used oil, construction materials, commercial appliances, paint, solvents, chemicals, medicines, needles and fluorescent tubes are not.
In Echo Park the program is genuinely usable if you can get your items to the street. That is the whole question. If your house is at the top of a stair run and the item is a sofa bed or a fridge, getting it to the curb is the entire job and the collection is the easy part. Many Echo Park streets are also single-lane with cars parked both sides, so there is limited space to stack items without blocking the road, and items left out without a confirmed pickup are illegal dumping.
