Glendale is not part of the City of Los Angeles and is not served by LA Sanitation. It runs its own Integrated Waste Management division, which gives residential properties of one to four units four free bulky item pickup appointments per calendar year, requested at least three working days before your refuse day at GlendaleCA.gov/BulkyPickup, in the Recycle Coach app, or on (818) 548-3916. That program is curbside only, it works from a fixed accepted-item list, and it refuses construction materials, lumber, cardboard, bags of trash, propane tanks and hazardous waste outright. Los Angeles Junk Removal & Hauling takes the rest, at one flat volume-based price agreed before we load.
Glendale is its own city with its own utility, its own fire department and its own waste rules, and almost every generic junk removal page for the area gets that wrong by quoting LA Sanitation numbers that do not apply here. The practical result is a much tighter free program than the one across the river in Los Angeles: four appointments a year instead of unlimited, a three-working-day lead time instead of one business day, and an accepted-item list where anything not named is refused.
The city itself splits into three very different hauling problems. There are the hillside tracts under the Verdugo Mountains and up in the San Rafael Hills, the dense rental corridor either side of Brand Boulevard, and the older single-family stock in neighborhoods like Adams Hill and Rossmoyne where the garages are small and full. See yard waste removal, garage cleanouts and how our pricing works.
Use the city service while you have appointments left. Glendale's Integrated Waste Management division collects bulky items free for single-family homes and buildings of two to four units, and you book it yourself through the city rather than through a hauler. Requests go in at least three working days before your normal refuse collection day, which in the city's own example means contacting them by Wednesday for a Monday, and items go to the curb after 6:00 p.m. the evening before. Everything has to be fully off private property to be collected.
The accepted list is specific rather than general, and Glendale says plainly that if an item is not on it, it is not accepted. Furniture, mattresses and box springs, televisions, computers, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, toilets, sinks, bicycles and exercise equipment are all in. But mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic or a mattress bag or the truck leaves them, anything containing glass has to be shrink wrapped or boarded with cardboard, refrigerator doors have to be removed or taped shut, freezers are limited to small ones, cast iron sinks are out, and rolled carpet has to be taped and under five feet long.
Then the exclusions, which is where most Glendale jobs land. No construction materials and no lumber, so a bathroom strip-out or a deck teardown has no free route. No large amounts of glass. No cardboard and no bags of trash. No propane tanks from barbecues or patio heaters. No hazardous waste of any kind. And if you live in a building of five units or more, or you are a business, the city program is not yours at all: those addresses are served by one of Glendale's four franchise haulers and you have to go through the property manager.

Glendale's hillside streets decide the truck before the load does. Chevy Chase Canyon climbs into the San Rafael Hills on the east side of the city, while Verdugo Woodlands and Whiting Woods sit under the Verdugo Mountains on the north and north-west. The roads there switchback, narrow and lose their curb parking, and a lot of the houses are stepped up or down off the street with a long stair run to the door. We size the vehicle to the road and shuttle rather than park across somebody's only exit.
Those same neighborhoods generate the load nobody else will take. Glendale's Vegetation Management Program covers the hillside and canyon communities in High and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and the California Fire Code with Glendale amendments requires defensible space within 100 feet of a combustible building, extended to 200 feet at the Fire Marshal's discretion. That is a lot of cut chaparral, oleander, palm frond and eucalyptus limb, and it is green waste, which no bulky appointment is going to solve. It has to leave the property.
Central Glendale is the opposite problem. The blocks either side of Brand Boulevard are dense rental stock, most of it over the four-unit line, which means no city bulky program and a move-out that has to clear through a subterranean garage, an elevator and a manager's schedule. The commercial core around the Americana at Brand and the Glendale Galleria adds retail fixtures, office refits and restaurant equipment, all business-generated waste and all outside the residential program. Older neighborhoods like Adams Hill and Rossmoyne bring the third kind of job: small detached garages, floored attics, basements under Spanish and Craftsman houses, and forty years of accumulation behind a single-width door. See commercial junk removal and estate cleanouts.

Our own crews on Los Angeles County jobs. The junk removal we run in Glendale looks like this too: side yards, narrow walkways and the back of the property is where the work actually is.
Glendale has better local infrastructure than most LA County cities and we use it. Household hazardous waste goes to the Glendale Fire Department's own facility at 780 Flower Street, open every Wednesday and the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., free to Glendale and La Cañada residents with proof of residency and to La Crescenta and Montrose residents holding a Glendale Water and Power bill. It has been running since 1991. The California transport limit applies there as everywhere: 15 gallons of liquid or 125 pounds of solids per visit, container size included. Electronics go to the Glendale Recycling Center at 540 W Chevy Chase Drive, weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., which takes computers, televisions and monitors, phones, small appliances, batteries and cables. Neither category may go in any curbside cart.
If you miss the Wednesday window, the Los Angeles-Glendale S.A.F.E. Collection Center at 4600 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles 90039 is minutes from south Glendale and is open Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. only. Bring a state photo ID: the center sits inside a water reclamation plant and the security gate checks it. No business waste, same 125 pound or 15 gallon cap.
Green waste from a clearance cut goes to composting. Usable furniture and tools go to donation. Scrap metal goes to a recycler and mattresses go into California's state-funded recycling program. Remodel debris is the one to plan for, because Glendale enforces its own Construction and Demolition ordinance rather than the LA City one: covered projects file a Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan with Building and Safety before work starts, post a diversion security deposit, and only get it back by diverting 65 percent of estimated debris to a certified mixed debris recycling facility and submitting the original facility tags marked with the project address. Land clearing is stricter still, at 100 percent reuse or recycling of trees, stumps, rocks and vegetation with the receipt to prove it. Non-franchise haulers may only work in Glendale on a temporary permit for construction and demolition projects, so who carries the load matters. Among the certified processors LA Sanitation audits, American Reclamation on Doran Street runs 80.75 percent and City Terrace Recycling 72.75 percent, and Doran Street is right on the Glendale line. See construction debris removal and e-waste disposal.

We are on these streets constantly because we are already next door: Burbank, Pasadena, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, North Hollywood. If your job straddles two of them it is still one visit and one number. The full list is on areas we serve. Glendale, Burbank and Los Angeles each run different bulky rules, and a job that crosses the line only has to obey the rules where the material is standing.

We are a service-area business with no yard or storefront, so there is nothing to drive to — the truck comes to you. The whole list is on areas we serve.
Hillside brush, packed garages, remodel debris, e-waste and the Brand Boulevard buildings.
Brush, palm fronds, sod, soil and storm debris, priced by weight.
The whole garage in one visit. We sort, donate what is usable and sweep the slab.
Drywall, lumber, tile and concrete, hauled to a certified C&D processor.
TVs, CRT monitors and computers. Banned from the trash in California.
COIs, after-hours dock slots and property-manager invoicing.
A full property cleared with care, on probate or move-out timelines.
Mostly about the city program, the hillsides and the apartment blocks.
No. Glendale is an independent city with its own Integrated Waste Management division, so MyLA311 and the LA City bulky program do not cover a Glendale address. You book through GlendaleCA.gov/BulkyPickup, the Recycle Coach app, or (818) 548-3916, at least three working days before your refuse day.
Four appointments per calendar year, for residential properties of one to four units. Once they are used, or once the load includes something on the refused list, the city route closes. That is usually when people call us.
No. Glendale's Vegetation Management Program requires defensible space within 100 feet of a combustible building, and up to 200 feet at the Fire Marshal's discretion, but cut vegetation is green waste and there is no bulky route for it. It also has to leave the property rather than sit at the boundary as fuel. We haul it and route it to composting. See yard waste removal.
Not if the building has five or more units. Those addresses are served by one of Glendale's four franchise haulers and any bulky collection has to go through the property manager. We work to the building instead: elevator booking, loading bay window, and a certificate of insurance sent to management before we arrive.
Paint and chemicals go to the Glendale Fire Department facility at 780 Flower Street, open Wednesdays and the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., free with proof of Glendale residency and capped at 15 gallons or 125 pounds a visit. Electronics go to the Glendale Recycling Center at 540 W Chevy Chase Drive. The Los Angeles-Glendale S.A.F.E. Center at 4600 Colorado Blvd takes both on Saturdays, and needs a state photo ID at the gate. If we are clearing the garage we separate and route all of it for you.
Yes, but we size the vehicle to the road. Those hillside streets switchback and lose their curb parking, so we bring a truck that fits and shuttle from the house rather than block the only way past. Tell us about the stair run and the gate width when you call and the crew arrives with the right kit.
Word for word from Google. Nothing tidied.
