Same-day hauling across Tarzana, from the estate lots in the hills south of Ventura Boulevard to the apartment blocks along Reseda and Lindley, quoted flat before we start.

Tarzana is part of the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation's curbside bulky item collection is free, has no annual cap, and is booked through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. Tarzana is really two neighborhoods, and that one program fits neither of them cleanly. In the hills south of Ventura Boulevard the curb sits a long way below the house and the loads are estate sized. In the apartment belt either side of Reseda Boulevard the bins are shared, so a tenant cannot just book a truck for their own sofa. Los Angeles Junk Removal & Hauling works both ends of it at one flat volume-based price.
South of the boulevard, Tarzana climbs. Private drives on a gradient, houses stepped down the slope with the living space below the road, terraced gardens held by retaining walls, and canyon roads running up toward Mulholland with no shoulder and nowhere to turn a truck around. Those are whole-property jobs: garages, guest houses, workshops, decades of contents.
North of it, Tarzana flattens into one of the denser apartment corridors in the west Valley. Two and three-story blocks from the 1960s and 1970s with tuck-under parking, exterior stairwells and no elevators, plus a steady turnover of tenancies. Those are carry jobs and turnover jobs. See estate cleanouts, mattress removal and how our pricing works.
Take the free service when it fits, and we will say so on the phone. For a single-family Tarzana address it costs nothing, there is no per-year limit, and you can raise it three ways: the LASAN online service request form, the MyLA311 app, or the Customer Care Center on 1-800-773-2489, which answers around the clock. Give them an itemised list, allow at least one business day, and set everything on the parkway for your normal collection day. Sofas, beds, mattresses and box springs, carpet if it is rolled and tied, doors, large lumber, sinks, toilets and e-waste including televisions and monitors are all on the accepted list.
Off the list: anything from a building site, so concrete, brick, dirt and drywall; paint, thinners, solvents and garden chemicals; motor oil and car parts; commercial appliances; sharps and medicines; and fluorescent tubes. Those are the exact items sitting at the back of a Tarzana hillside garage, which is why so few hillside clear-outs can be done as a curbside request.
The apartment side has a different obstacle. The program is written around a single address with its own carts and its own stretch of curb. A block on Reseda or Etiwanda shares an enclosure, so the request has to be raised by the owner or the manager rather than a tenant, and even then the collection stays at the curb. Nobody walks up an exterior stairwell to fetch a mattress. Putting one beside the shared bins before a booking has been confirmed is dumping, and the citation lands on the property.

The apartment stock here was built for smaller cars. Tuck-under parking decks have headroom a box truck will not clear, so we park on the street or in the alley and carry. Stairwells are external, open and narrow, with a half-turn at the landing that decides whether a sectional comes down whole or in two pieces. Several of the side streets off Reseda and Lindley are permit-controlled and street sweeping is enforced, so the truck position gets planned rather than improvised.
The hillside half is the opposite problem. Driveways drop or climb steeply from the road, sometimes with a switchback of their own, and the house often sits below street level so everything travels upward. That is slower and needs more hands than carrying down. Retaining walls, terraced beds and pool decks mean the backyard may have no wheeled route out at all. On the canyon roads toward Mulholland there is frequently no turnaround, so we bring a vehicle sized to the street and run it twice rather than once.
The loads split just as cleanly. Apartments produce mattresses, futons, flat-pack furniture, mini-fridges and microwaves, and full unit clear-outs when a tenancy ends. The hills produce whole-property work: garages, guest houses, workshops, patio furniture, spa shells and the brush that comes off a slope. We sort donations out of both before anything is tipped.

Our own crews on Los Angeles County jobs. The junk removal we run in Tarzana looks like this too: side yards, narrow walkways and the back of the property is where the work actually is.
Reusable furniture and household goods are donated first. Metal is recycled. Mattresses and box springs go into California's state-funded mattress recycling program, which is paid for by a fee collected when a new mattress is sold, so landfilling one saves nobody anything. Electronics are universal waste in California and are banned from the trash, so they go to a certified handler. For household hazardous waste, Tarzana has two genuinely close options: the Nicole Bernson S.A.F.E. Collection Center at 10241 N Balboa Blvd in Northridge, open Saturdays and Sundays 9 to 3, free to City and County residents and closed to business waste; and LA Sanitation's free monthly Saturday drop-off at 8840 Vanalden Ave in Northridge, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with remaining 2026 dates of 19 September, 10 October, 21 November and 12 December. Both apply the state's 125-pound or 15-gallon per-visit transport limit. Remodel and demolition debris has to be hauled to a City-certified mixed C&D processing facility; Crown Recycling in Sun Valley is one of the nearer ones and is audited at an 81.28% recycling rate.

We are on these streets constantly because we are already next door: Encino, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Studio City. If your job straddles two of them it is still one visit and one number. The full list is on areas we serve.

We are a service-area business with no yard or storefront, so there is nothing to drive to — the truck comes to you. The whole list is on areas we serve.
Unit turnovers, stairwell carries, hillside garages and whole properties.
Couches, sectionals, mattresses in the same trip, beds, desks and wardrobes carried down rather than dragged.
Recycled through a state-funded program, not dumped. Box springs and futons too.
The whole garage in one visit. We sort, donate what is usable and sweep the slab.
A full property cleared with care, on probate or move-out timelines.
TVs, CRT monitors and computers. Banned from the trash in California.
Booked and cleared the same day, most days, across LA County.
Stairs on one side of the boulevard, slopes on the other.
Usually not. The program assumes an address with its own carts and its own curb, and apartment blocks share an enclosure, so the owner or property manager has to raise the request. Even when they do, the collection is curbside and nobody uses the stairwell.
Yes, that is routine work here. We protect the landing, take the turn, and load from the street or the alley because the tuck-under deck is too low for the truck. Mattresses go into the state recycling program, not a landfill. See mattress removal.
Two options, both in Northridge. The Nicole Bernson S.A.F.E. Center at 10241 N Balboa Blvd is open weekends 9 to 3, and LA Sanitation runs a free monthly Saturday drop-off at 8840 Vanalden Ave, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Both cap you at 125 pounds or 15 gallons a visit.
It is slower, because everything is carried up rather than down, and we send more crew for it. It is priced into the flat number before we start rather than added on afterwards. See how our pricing works.
Yes. Garages, guest houses, workshops and the contents of a house held for decades, worked to a sale or probate date if you have one, with donations routed and hazardous material separated. See estate cleanouts.
