In short

West Los Angeles has two free options most residents do not know about. LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free, unlimited and curbside, booked through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. And LASAN runs a free monthly Saturday drop-off site right in the neighborhood at 2027 Stoner Ave, Los Angeles 90025, open 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with the remaining 2026 dates being September 19, October 10, November 21 and December 12. Between those two, a lot of a West LA clear-out costs nothing. We handle the rest.

Use the free channels first. If you can put it at the curb, book LASAN. If you can drive it, the Stoner Avenue drop-off is a genuinely good option and it is minutes from most West LA addresses.

Where we come in is volume and labor: a fourplex unit cleared between tenants, a garage stacked to the roll-up door, a duplex full of a lifetime of possessions, or remodel debris that no municipal program accepts. One flat number by volume, quoted before we start. See how our pricing works.

The free options first

Curbside pickup,
plus a drop-off on Stoner.

LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free and unlimited for single-family residents in the City of Los Angeles, requested online, via the MyLA311 app, or on the 24-hour line at 1-800-773-2489, collected on your regular trash day with at least one business day's notice. It takes furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, rolled and tied carpet, large wood and doors, and e-waste including TVs, computers and monitors. It refuses automotive parts and used oil, construction materials, commercial appliances, paint, solvents, chemicals, medicines, needles and fluorescent tubes.

The second option is the one people miss. LASAN runs free monthly drop-off events from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at five sites across the city, and one of them is 2027 Stoner Ave in West LA. That is the closest municipal drop-off to the whole Westside. The remaining 2026 Saturdays are September 19, October 10, November 21 and December 12. If your load fits in a vehicle and you can spare a Saturday morning, that is free.

For household hazardous material and e-waste on a weekend, the UCLA S.A.F.E. Center in Westwood is the nearest permanent site, open Fridays, Saturdays and the first Sunday of each month, 9 to 3.

On the ground

Sawtelle fourplexes
and 1940s garages.

West LA is a mix that changes block to block. Around Sawtelle and south of Olympic it is dense: 1950s and 1960s fourplexes and small apartment buildings with exterior stairs, open carports and rear alleys. Those are carry jobs, and the alley is usually the fastest route out. North of Santa Monica Boulevard the stock shifts to modest single-family houses on regular lots with detached garages down a long driveway, plus a growing number of ADU conversions and small-lot subdivisions.

The garages here are the classic West LA job. Built for a 1940s car, filled since, with paint and solvents somewhere at the back and a side gate too narrow for anything wide. We sort in place, separate hazardous material for proper disposal rather than tipping it, and sweep out.

Parking is preferential across much of the area and the alleys are single-lane with bins, so we stage tight and work fast. On Sawtelle and the commercial strips there are also small businesses and offices, which are a separate kind of job with insurance and after-hours access.

Where it goes

The disposal chain
for a West LA load.

Donation first for usable furniture and household goods. Scrap metal is recycled. Mattresses go into California's state-funded recycling program rather than a landfill. Electronics are universal waste in California, banned from the trash since the state's exemption ended in February 2006, and go to a certified handler or the UCLA S.A.F.E. Center. Paint goes through PaintCare, which runs over 800 free California drop-off locations. ADU and remodel debris goes to a City-certified mixed construction and demolition processing facility, which the City of Los Angeles requires by ordinance for any C&D waste generated in the city, with penalties for loads taken elsewhere.

West LA
questions

The Stoner Avenue drop-off surprises almost everyone.

Where is the free drop-off site in West LA?

2027 Stoner Ave, Los Angeles 90025. LA Sanitation runs free drop-off events there on scheduled Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The remaining 2026 dates are September 19, October 10, November 21 and December 12.

Is West LA bulky pickup free?

Yes. West LA is in the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation collects bulky items free with no annual cap, booked through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489 and collected on your regular trash day. It is curbside only.

Can I put old paint out for curbside pickup in West LA?

No. Paint, solvents and chemicals are on LASAN's prohibited list. Paint goes free to a PaintCare drop-off, and other household hazardous material goes to the UCLA S.A.F.E. Center in Westwood, open Fridays, Saturdays and the first Sunday of the month, 9 to 3.

Do you haul debris from an ADU or garage conversion?

Yes. Construction materials cannot go to the curb, and in the City of Los Angeles mixed C&D debris must be taken to a City-certified processing facility. See construction debris removal.

Can you clear a West LA fourplex unit today?

Usually. We are open Monday to Saturday 24 hours and Sunday 1pm to 10pm, and West LA is central to our runs. We can invoice a property manager rather than a tenant. Call or text (323) 230-0777.
