Junk removal in Santa Monica
when the city's three won't cut it.

Same-day hauling across Santa Monica, from the alleys off Main Street to the courtyard buildings north of Wilshire, with one flat number quoted before we lift anything.

In short

Santa Monica residents get three free bulky item collections per calendar year, capped at five items each, requested through the city's hauler at (866) 311-7266 and collected within seven to ten days. That covers a couch or a mattress you can get to the curb. It does not cover a garage, a full apartment clear-out, construction debris, or anything still sitting inside the unit. Los Angeles Junk Removal & Hauling handles the jobs that fall outside those three pickups, usually the same day.

Almost every Santa Monica junk call comes down to one of two problems. Either the job is bigger than five items, or it cannot wait ten days. We are built for both. We quote one flat number based on how much truck space the load takes, we carry it out ourselves rather than asking you to stage it at the curb, and we work Monday through Saturday around the clock. See how our pricing works before you call so there are no surprises.

Santa Monica is also one of the few cities on the Westside where the free option is genuinely good and worth using first. We would rather tell you that and get the next job than talk you into paying for something the city will do for nothing.

The free option first

What Santa Monica hauls free,
and where it stops.

The city runs its own bulky and abandoned item collection rather than leaning on LA Sanitation, and the terms are specific. Three collections per address per calendar year. A maximum of five items per collection. Requests go through (866) 311-7266 or the city's online form, and the crew arrives within seven to ten days, not the next morning. Extra pickups beyond the free three are billed hourly with a one-hour minimum, which is where a flat-rate haul usually wins on both price and speed.

Use the city when you have one or two items, you can get them to the curb, and you are not in a hurry. Call us when the count is over five, the item is upstairs, the tenant is out tomorrow, the item is a hot tub or a shed, or the load is drywall and lumber from a remodel. Those are the four situations the municipal program is not designed to solve.

On the ground

Alleys, permit zones
and 1940s walk-ups.

Santa Monica's housing stock is mostly small pre-war and mid-century apartment buildings, and almost none of them have a service elevator. A sectional out of a second-floor unit on Fourth Street gets carried down an exterior stair, turned twice on a landing, and walked to the truck. We price for that and we bring the crew for it.

North of Montana the lots are deeper and the driveways are longer, so the carry is the cost rather than the volume. South of the 10 and around Ocean Park the alleys behind the buildings are the loading zone, which is faster for us and cheaper for you if the alley gate can be opened. Everywhere west of Lincoln you are in preferential parking, so we work the load fast rather than leaving a truck sitting in a resident space.

Beach-adjacent buildings add one more wrinkle: sand, salt and decades of storage mean garages here fill with rusted patio furniture, boards, bikes and broken beach gear. A garage cleanout in Santa Monica is rarely just boxes.

Where it goes

The disposal chain
for a Santa Monica load.

Usable furniture and household goods go to donation first. Mattresses and box springs go into the state-funded mattress recycling program run by the Mattress Recycling Council under CalRecycle, not to a landfill. Electronics are universal waste in California and cannot legally go in the trash, so TVs, monitors and computers are routed to a certified handler or to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center. The nearest one to Santa Monica is Hyperion, 7660 W Imperial Hwy Gate B in Playa del Rey, open Saturday and Sunday 9 to 3, with a hard state limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Remodel debris goes to a City-certified mixed C&D processing facility, which is a legal requirement for any hauler moving construction waste generated in the City of Los Angeles.

We will tell you where your load went if you ask. Most of what leaves a Santa Monica house is recyclable or donatable, and it is cheaper for us to divert it than to tip it.

Santa Monica
questions

The things people actually ask before booking a haul here.

How many free bulky item pickups does Santa Monica give residents?

Three per address per calendar year, with a maximum of five items each. You request them through the city's hauler at (866) 311-7266 or the online form, and collection happens within seven to ten days. Extra pickups past the free three are billed hourly with a one-hour minimum.

Will the City of Santa Monica take a mattress?

Yes. A mattress counts as one of your five items on a free bulky collection and it has to be at the curb. What the city will not do is come inside and take it off the bed frame in a second-floor unit. That is the job we get called for. See mattress removal.

Can you do same-day junk removal in Santa Monica?

Most days, yes. We are open Monday to Saturday 24 hours and Sunday 1pm to 10pm, and Santa Monica is a short run for our crews. Call or text (323) 230-0777 and we will tell you honestly whether today is realistic before you commit.

Do you take construction debris from a Santa Monica remodel?

Yes, and this is one the city program specifically excludes. Mixed construction and demolition debris has to go to a certified processing facility, not a landfill. See construction debris removal for how that works.

How much does junk removal cost in Santa Monica?

We price by volume, meaning how much of the truck your load takes, quoted as one flat number on site before we start. There is no hourly meter and no surprise disposal surcharge. How our pricing works explains it in full.

Do you clear apartments and rentals for property managers?

Yes. Turnovers, evictions and abandoned units are routine for us across Santa Monica, and we can invoice a management company rather than a tenant. See commercial junk removal.
