In short

Brentwood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation will collect bulky items free and with no annual cap from a Brentwood curb on your regular trash day, booked through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. The problem in Brentwood is rarely the allowance. It is that the curb is two hundred feet from the house, up a canyon street a collection truck cannot turn on, behind a gate, and the job is a whole property rather than a couch. Los Angeles Junk Removal & Hauling handles that scale of work at one flat volume-based price.

Brentwood work divides into two kinds. Canyon houses off Mandeville, Sullivan and Bundy, where the constraint is access: long private drives, hairpin streets, no turnaround, and living space stacked below the road. And estate-scale clear-outs, where the constraint is volume and care: a whole house, decades of contents, family sorting through it, often on a probate or sale timeline.

We do both properly. We bring enough crew to keep it moving, we sort rather than shovel, and we quote one flat number after walking the property. See estate cleanouts and how our pricing works.

The free option first

Free and unlimited,
if your curb is reachable.

LA Sanitation calls its bulky item pickup an unlimited curbside service at no additional charge, and there is no per-year cap for single-family residents. You request it online, on the MyLA311 app, or on the 24-hour line at 1-800-773-2489, they ask for an itemised list so the right truck comes, and collection happens on your normal trash day with at least one business day's notice. Furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, rolled and tied carpet, large wood pieces and doors, and e-waste including TVs and monitors are all accepted.

It refuses automotive parts and used oil, construction materials like concrete, brick and dirt, commercial appliances, paint, solvents and chemicals, medicines and needles, and fluorescent tubes. In Brentwood specifically, the practical limit is geography. On the canyon streets there is often nowhere to stage items that is both reachable by a collection truck and not blocking a single-lane road. On gated properties the curb is outside the gate. And nothing in the program covers moving contents out of a house, which is what an estate clear-out actually requires.

On the ground

Hairpins, private drives
and houses below the road.

The canyon streets above Sunset were cut into the hillside and never widened. Mandeville, Sullivan and the roads off them are frequently one lane with a blind bend, no turnaround at the end, and no shoulder to stage a load on. We send a truck that fits the street rather than the biggest truck we own, and we shuttle if we have to. That decision gets made on the walk-through, not on arrival.

Many Brentwood houses sit below the road with the garage at street level and living space descending two or three floors below. That means everything comes up, not down, which is slower and needs more hands. Long private driveways add a second carry. Gates and intercoms add time, and we would rather you tell us the code than have a crew waiting.

The flats south of Sunset and along San Vicente are easier: wide streets, real driveways, and larger houses with attics, basements and multi-car garages. That is where the volume lives, and where a full garage cleanout can genuinely fill a truck twice. Along Wilshire the stock turns to condo towers with loading docks, freight elevators and insurance requirements, which is a different job again.

Where it goes

The disposal chain
for a Brentwood load.

Brentwood loads are the most donatable we handle, and on estate work the sorting matters more than the hauling. Good furniture, art, books, clothing and kitchen goods go to donation, and we will stage items for a family member or an appraiser rather than making the decision for you. Mattresses go into California's state-funded recycling program. Electronics are universal waste under California law and go to a certified handler. Household hazardous material goes to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center, and Brentwood's nearest is the UCLA center at 550 Charles E Young Dr West, open Fridays, Saturdays and the first Sunday of each month, 9 to 3, with the state's 125-pound or 15-gallon per-visit limit. Remodel debris goes to a City-certified mixed C&D processing facility, as the City of Los Angeles requires by ordinance.

Worth knowing

Brentwood
in five lines.

Brentwood facts
  1. Brentwood is in the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation bulky pickup is free and unlimited but strictly curbside.
  2. Canyon streets off Mandeville and Sullivan often have no truck turnaround and no legal staging area for bulky items.
  3. LA Sanitation will not remove anything from inside a Brentwood house, which is what an estate clear-out actually needs.
  4. The nearest household hazardous waste and e-waste drop-off to Brentwood is the UCLA S.A.F.E. Center, open Fridays, Saturdays and the first Sunday monthly, 9 to 3.
  5. Construction debris generated in the City of Los Angeles must be hauled to a City-certified processing facility, not a landfill.

We are on these streets constantly because we are already next door: West LA, Westwood, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, Encino. If your job straddles two of them it is still one visit and one number. The full list is on areas we serve.

Brentwood
questions

Access and estate timelines drive most of these.

Can you get a truck up a Brentwood canyon street?

Usually, but we choose the vehicle for the street rather than the load. Many roads off Mandeville and Sullivan are single lane with no turnaround, so we may use a smaller truck and make two runs. We work that out on the walk-through so the price does not move.

Do you handle full estate clear-outs in Brentwood?

Yes, and it is a large share of our work here. We sort rather than shovel, stage anything a family member or appraiser needs to see, route donations, and work to a probate or escrow date. See estate cleanouts.

Will LA Sanitation take my items for free in Brentwood?

If you can get them to a reachable curb on your trash day, yes, free and with no annual limit, booked via MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489. On a gated or canyon property that is often not practical, and they will never come inside the house.

Can you remove a hot tub from a Brentwood back garden?

Yes. We drain it, cut it into sections and carry it out through the side gate or over the wall if that is the only route. It is not a curbside item anywhere in the city. See hot tub removal.

How do you price a Brentwood job?

By volume plus access, as one flat number quoted after we have walked the property. Long carries, stairs and canyon access are priced in upfront rather than added later. See how our pricing works.
