Hot tub removal,
deck and all.

A spa is a demolition job. We drain it, cut the shell down small enough to leave the yard, take the decking and surround with it, and sweep the pad.

In short Hot tub removal is a demolition job, not a pickup. We drain the spa, confirm it has been electrically isolated, cut the shell down small enough to leave the yard, and haul the shell, frame, decking and surround away in one visit. There is no free city route for a hot tub in Los Angeles — LASAN's bulky program does not cover them.

Almost every hot tub in Los Angeles was placed before the yard around it was finished. Then came the deck, the fence, the raised beds and the pergola, and now there is a thousand-pound acrylic shell in a space with a thirty-inch gate. That is the actual job.

How it runs

Drain, isolate, cut, clear

Drain

A six-person spa holds several hundred gallons and a full shell can exceed a ton. Water needs to be cool and dechlorinated before it goes anywhere; a sewer clean-out beats a storm drain, which runs to the ocean in most of this city.

Isolate the power

Spas run on a dedicated 240V circuit with a GFCI disconnect. It gets switched off at the breaker and disconnected by a licensed electrician before we touch it. We do not cut live circuits.

Cut it down

On a tarp, on site, into sections that fit through the gate or down the side yard. Shell, frame, insulation, pumps and heater all come apart into their own streams.

Take the deck with it

Decking, skirt, stairs, pergola and any fence panel we removed for access. Then we sweep the pad and hand you a level, empty space.

Why there is no free option

A spa falls outside every city program

In short LASAN's bulky-item pickup lists what it takes and what it refuses, and a hot tub appears on neither list — along with pool tables, pianos and safes. Landfills classify spas as hard-to-handle bulky waste and charge a per-item premium on top of the per-ton gate rate, with a one-ton minimum on every material. That is why a spa is quoted as demolition.

The materials are the other half of the problem. A hot tub is an acrylic or fibreglass shell, a treated lumber or composite frame, rigid foam insulation, a plastic skirt, copper and steel in the heater and pumps, and a mile of flexible PVC. The metal is recyclable and goes to scrap. The rest is genuinely difficult material, and any company quoting a spa at the same rate as a couch has either not seen it or is planning to leave the frame in your yard.

Also heavy, also awkward

The rest of the hard list

The same crew and the same approach handles the other things nobody else will quote: swim spas, pool tables, pianos, gun safes, above-ground pools, garden sheds — see shed removal — playhouses, pergolas and rotten decking. Where the job leaves a pile of lumber, concrete or tile behind, that goes out as construction debris, and where it exposes a neglected yard, as yard waste removal. If the spa is going because the whole property is being cleared, it usually rides with an estate cleanout.

Hot tub removal, answered

What people ask before a spa gets cut up in their back yard.

Can you remove a hot tub that is still full?

Yes, but it needs draining first and that takes hours, not minutes. A standard six-person spa holds several hundred gallons, and a full acrylic shell can weigh well over a ton with water in it. Tell us when you book and we will either schedule around your drain or bring a pump. Chlorinated or bromine water should be dechlorinated and cooled before it goes anywhere near a storm drain — a sanitary sewer clean-out is the safer route.

Do you have to cut it up?

Almost always. Hot tubs are craned or wheeled into a yard before the fencing, decking, patio or landscaping goes in, and then the yard is closed up around them. Cutting the shell into sections is usually the only way it leaves without dismantling a fence. We cut on site, on a tarp, and clear the debris with it.

Will you take the deck and surround too?

Yes. Lumber decking, the frame, the skirt, stairs, the pergola over it and any fencing that has to come down for access. That is construction debris, so it is priced by weight rather than volume.

What about the electrical hook-up?

A spa runs on a dedicated 240V circuit with a GFCI disconnect. It must be isolated at the breaker and disconnected by a licensed electrician before we cut anything. We do not touch live circuits and no reputable hauler will.

Will the city take a hot tub?

No. LASAN's accepted and prohibited lists name neither hot tubs, pool tables, pianos nor safes — they are outside the bulky-item program. Landfills treat them as hard-to-handle bulky waste and charge a premium per item on top of tonnage. There is no free route for a spa in Los Angeles, which is worth knowing before you spend a weekend trying to find one.

How long does it take?

Two to four hours for a standard above-ground spa once it is drained and disconnected, longer if it is built into decking, sunk into a patio, or has to come out through a house. Swim spas and concrete-set units are quoted on a site visit.

Do you fix the yard afterwards?

We clear the debris and sweep the pad. We are not landscapers, so re-decking, patching a patio or laying turf over the void is a separate trade — but you get a clean, empty, level area to hand to them.

How much does hot tub removal cost?

Quoted flat, from photographs or a site visit, before anything is cut. The variables are size, access, whether it is built in, and how much decking comes with it. See how our pricing works.
