Working with Hunter and this company was great. Gave us a quick quote over the phone after sending photos and was able to help us the SAME day. Removal was fast and easy. We definitely recommend going with this company.
Alley garages, converted studios, storage rooms and carport stores cleared in Venice. We sort as we go, pull out what the city will never take at the curb, and sweep the slab.

Venice garages are mostly reached from the alley, and half of them are studios or workshops now rather than parking. Free city bulky pickup takes the furniture but refuses the paint, solvent, motor oil and fluorescent tubes stacked around the edges. Garage cleanouts here separate every fraction on site and route it properly.
A Venice garage cleanout is rarely a parking-space cleanout. Lots here are small, most garages are reached from the alley rather than the street, and a large share have been converted into studios, offices, workshops or living space with storage packed around the edges. Venice is inside the City of Los Angeles, so LA Sanitation will collect furniture, mattresses, carpet and large wood free at the curb through its unlimited bulky item pickup — but it refuses paints, solvents and chemicals, automotive parts and used oil, fluorescent lights and construction material, which is precisely what a garage holds. Those go to a S.A.F.E. collection center, and the nearest one to Venice is Hyperion at 7660 West Imperial Highway, Gate B, Playa del Rey, open Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a state limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Los Angeles Junk Removal & Hauling separates all of it at your address, tells you what is going where, and quotes the job free upfront.
Ask somebody in Venice to describe their garage and you will usually get a different word: the studio, the shop, the back room, the space behind the gate. Very few of them hold a car. What they do hold is thirty years of accumulation stacked against a wall that is eight feet from the neighbor's, in a building the truck cannot park in front of.
So this page is about the two things that actually decide a Venice garage job: how the space is reached, and what is inside it that cannot ride on a normal load. The wider picture of what we haul locally is on junk removal in Venice, and the county-wide service is on garage cleanouts.
Venice is City of Los Angeles, so the free route is LA Sanitation's bulky item collection, and it is genuinely good: LASAN describes it as an unlimited curbside service at no additional charge, with no per-item or per-year cap for single-family addresses. You request it through the online service request form, the MyLA311 app, or the 24-hour Customer Care Center on 1-800-773-2489, at least one business day ahead, and it is collected on your regular trash day. LASAN asks for an itemized list so it dispatches a correctly sized truck. Accepted at the curb: furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, rolled and tied carpet, large wood pieces and doors, and e-waste including televisions, computers and monitors.
Now read the refusals against the contents of an actual garage. Paints, solvents and chemicals: refused. Automotive parts and used oil: refused. Fluorescent lights: refused. Construction materials, concrete, brick and dirt: refused. Commercial appliances: refused. Cardboard, unless it is part of a scheduled Move In / Move Out service: refused. That is most of a garage wall. The free service is built for the bulky item standing at the curb, not for the shelf of half-used products above where a car should be.
Those refused items have a free destination of their own, and it is open two days a week. The S.A.F.E. centers — Solvents, Automotive, Flammables, Electronics — accept aerosols, automotive fluids, cleaners and solvents, e-waste, household batteries, paint and thinner, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and mercury items, pesticides, propane cylinders, sharps and medications, free to City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County residents. The hard limit is 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit, which is a California transport limit rather than a city rule, and it is the reason a thoroughly stocked garage is more than one trip. The nearest center to Venice is Hyperion, 7660 West Imperial Highway Gate B, Playa del Rey, Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. LASAN also runs free monthly Saturday drop-off events from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Westside site is 2027 Stoner Avenue, Los Angeles 90025.
Two products in a garage have their own better routes on top of that. Architectural paint is covered by PaintCare, which operates hundreds of free California drop-off points, mostly paint retailers and household hazardous waste facilities, funded by a recovery fee already paid when the paint was bought — nothing to pay at drop-off. And tires are excluded from LASAN's curbside bulky collection altogether; the statewide California Tire Fee is charged on new tires at purchase to fund the recycling system, and anyone transporting ten or more waste tires has to be a registered waste tire hauler carrying a trip log, which is a real compliance line and worth knowing before you hand a stack of them to somebody with a pickup.

Venice lots are small and the built form is dense, which produces a specific pattern: the garage sits at the back of the lot and opens onto an alley, not the street. That alley is the working frontage for a large part of the neighborhood, and it is narrow, shared, and frequently occupied — by bins on collection day, by a neighbor's car on their apron, by a contractor's van. We size the vehicle to the alley rather than sending the biggest truck and hoping, and where the alley is genuinely blocked we shuttle to a legal position on the street instead of leaving you to reschedule.
Then there are the blocks where a vehicle simply cannot reach the property. Several parts of Venice are served by pedestrian walkways rather than driveable streets, and the canal blocks add water and footbridges to the same problem. On those addresses the truck stops where it can legally stand and the crew makes the distance on foot, repeatedly. That is normal work here. It is also the single largest difference between an identical-looking Venice job and one three miles inland, and it is why we ask how the property is reached before we ask how much there is.
The third pattern is the converted garage, and it changes the sorting rather than the carrying. When a garage becomes a studio or an office, the storage does not go away, it migrates: to a loft platform, to a wall of shelving behind a partition, to the crawl space, to a shed in the four feet of yard that is left. A cleanout of that space is a mixed job — furniture and floor covering and cabinetry alongside the paint tins and the boxes — and the fractions have to be separated as they come out rather than sorted later on a driveway that does not exist.
The fourth is the coast itself. Salt air is hard on stored metal and cardboard, and a Venice garage that has not been opened in a decade often contains material in worse condition than it looks from the doorway: rusted tools, corroded battery terminals, swollen paint tins with failed seals, damp boxes that will not survive being lifted. Corroded and leaking containers are handled and contained rather than tipped into a load, because a split can of solvent contaminates everything it touches. We would rather spend the extra ten minutes at your address than discover it at a gate. When the garage is really the visible half of a whole-property clearance, see estate cleanouts in Venice.
Tell us what is on the shelves and how the garage is reached. That decides the quote, not the square footage.

Our own crews on Los Angeles County jobs. The garage cleanouts we run in Venice looks like this too: side yards, narrow walkways and the back of the property is where the work actually is.
A garage load sorts into five streams and the sorting happens at your property. Reusable goods go to donation, and Venice garages produce more of these than most: tools, camping and surf equipment, bicycles, furniture, art materials. Metal — shelving, tools, bicycle frames, appliance parts, pipe, an old boiler — goes to a scrap recycler rather than a disposal gate. Clean wood and lumber offcuts are separated from mixed waste. Electronics come out as their own category. And whatever is left is the genuinely disposed fraction, which on a properly sorted garage is far smaller than people expect.
Electronics matter here because the rule is a state one, not a preference. In California, televisions, monitors, computers, printers, microwaves, cell phones and household batteries are universal waste, and the state's exemption ended on 9 February 2006, banning them from the household trash. A Venice garage typically holds several: an old monitor, a broken printer, a box of cables, a dead cordless drill battery. Those are separated and routed to a certified handler, or to a S.A.F.E. center, which takes e-waste as one of the four letters in its name.
The chemical fraction is the one that decides how the job is planned. Paint and thinner, solvents, cleaners, automotive fluids and used motor oil, pool acid and chlorine, pesticides and weed killers, aerosols, propane cylinders, household batteries, fluorescent tubes and mercury items: all household hazardous waste, all refused by LASAN at the curb, all accepted free at a S.A.F.E. center within the 125 pound or 15 gallon per-visit limit, and all only movable on a Saturday or Sunday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. That is why we count the chemical fraction while quoting, not afterwards, and why a heavily stocked Venice garage sometimes has to be handled across two windows.
Anything structural that comes out of a converted garage is a separate category again. Under the City of Los Angeles Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Ordinance, mixed construction and demolition debris generated in the city must be hauled by a permitted private hauler to a city-certified processing facility, with a penalty of up to $5,000 per load taken anywhere else. Torn-out partition walls, old cabinetry with the plaster behind it, a slab of broken concrete from a driveway repair: that is that material. It can go, but it goes to a certified processor, and we will tell you which part of your load falls into it before we take any of it.

Part of it. LA Sanitation's bulky item pickup is free and genuinely unlimited for a single-family Venice address, and it covers furniture, mattresses, carpet, large wood and e-waste at the curb. It does not cover paints, solvents, automotive fluids, fluorescent tubes or construction material, which is most of what makes a garage a garage. Book the free pickup on 1-800-773-2489 for the bulky half, and call us for the half it refuses, or for all of it in one visit.
Either to a S.A.F.E. center, which takes paint and thinner free within the 125 pound or 15 gallon per-visit limit, or to a PaintCare drop-off point, which is free because the recovery fee was already paid when the paint was bought. Both are real options and neither is available midweek at the S.A.F.E. centers, which run Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We handle it as part of the job so you do not have to plan a weekend around it.
That is the standard Venice situation and we plan for it. We size the vehicle to the alley rather than sending the largest truck, and if the alley is genuinely blocked on the day we shuttle to a legal position on the street instead of rescheduling you. Tell us which alley and which cross street when you book, and whether there is a gate, so the crew is not standing at a locked one.
Yes, and it is most of what we do here. A converted space is a mixed job: furniture, flooring, partition materials and cabinetry alongside the boxes and the chemicals that migrated to a loft platform or a shelf behind a wall. We sort those fractions as they come out. If the conversion is being reversed and there is structural material coming out, that part has its own rules in the City of Los Angeles and has to go to a certified processing facility.
Yes, but carefully. Salt air is hard on stored metal and a Venice garage that has been shut for years often holds swollen tins and corroded containers. Those are contained rather than tipped into a load, because a split can of solvent ruins everything it touches and creates a problem at the receiving end. We handle it at your address and tell you honestly if anything needs a specialist route.
Access decides it far more than volume. An alley garage a truck can back to is quick. A property reached by a walkway is the same amount of material and considerably more time, because every load is carried. A heavily stocked chemical shelf can also mean splitting the hazardous fraction across more than one weekend window. We give you the real answer while quoting, free and with no obligation, rather than a comfortable one.
