In short

Culver City gives single-family homes two free bulky pickups per calendar year and multi-family addresses one, up to six items each, requested on (310) 253-6400 with confirmation in 72 hours and collection scheduled within roughly two weeks. Appliances must be drained of refrigerant before the city will take them, and collected furniture is landfilled rather than recycled. If you want it gone sooner, taken from inside, or diverted rather than dumped, that is what we do, at one flat volume-based price.

Two details make Culver City different, and both are worth knowing before you book anything. First, the city requires refrigerant appliances to be drained before collection, which is not a job for a homeowner — refrigerant handling is regulated. Second, the city has been explicit that furniture collected on its bulky program goes to landfill.

We divert instead. Usable furniture goes to donation, metal to recycling, mattresses into the state recycling program. If the environmental outcome matters to you, that is a real difference rather than a slogan. See how our pricing works.

The free option first

Two pickups, six items,
and a two-week wait.

Culver City runs its own bulky item collection. Single-family residents get two free pickups per calendar year; multi-family addresses get one. Each pickup covers up to six items. Requests go to (310) 253-6400, are confirmed within 72 hours, and are typically scheduled within about two weeks. So the free option works if you are not in a hurry and your item count is low.

Two city-specific conditions matter. Appliances containing refrigerant must be drained before the city will collect them, which in practice means a certified technician, not you with a screwdriver. And Culver City has stated that furniture collected through the program is landfilled, so if you were hoping a decent sofa would be rehomed, it will not be.

As with every municipal program, it is curbside. Nobody comes into the garage, the studio, the unit or the yard. Construction debris and household hazardous waste are excluded everywhere.

On the ground

Bungalows, hillsides
and a studio town.

Culver City's residential grid is compact 1920s to 1950s bungalows and duplexes on small flat lots, with detached garages behind long driveways and alleys serving a good number of blocks. Those garages are the standard job here, and they are usually deeper than they look. Blair Hills, Baldwin Hills-adjacent streets and Culver Crest add slope, which means stair carries and split-level houses where the garage is above or below the living space.

The city's other half is commercial and creative: studios, post-production houses, offices, showrooms and light industrial along Washington, Jefferson and the Hayden Tract. Those clear-outs are office furniture, sets, props, cable, server gear and fixtures, and they run on dock access, certificates of insurance and after-hours windows. We do that work regularly.

Culver City enforces parking and street cleaning carefully, and its residential streets are narrow. We stage in a driveway or an alley where possible and keep the truck moving.

Where it goes

The disposal chain
for a Culver City load.

This is where we differ from the municipal route. Usable furniture goes to donation rather than a landfill. Scrap metal is recycled. Mattresses go into California's state-funded mattress recycling program. Refrigerant appliances are handled as universal waste with the refrigerant recovered properly, which is exactly the step the city asks residents to arrange themselves. Electronics go to a certified handler. Household hazardous material goes to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center, with the UCLA center in Westwood and Hyperion in Playa del Rey both close, free, and capped at 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Construction debris goes to a City-certified mixed C&D processor.

Culver City
questions

The appliance rule catches people out.

How many free bulky pickups does Culver City give?

Two per calendar year for single-family residents and one for multi-family, up to six items each. Book on (310) 253-6400. Confirmation comes within 72 hours and collection is usually scheduled within about two weeks.

Why won't Culver City take my fridge?

Because it has to be drained of refrigerant first, and the city requires that before collection. Refrigerant recovery is regulated work. We take refrigerant appliances and handle them as universal waste with the refrigerant recovered properly. See appliance removal.

Does Culver City donate the furniture it collects?

No. The city's own guidance is that furniture collected on the bulky program is landfilled. We sort for donation first, so a usable sofa gets rehomed rather than buried.

Can you clear a studio, office or production space in Culver City?

Yes, that is a big part of our work here. Sets, props, office furniture, cable and fixtures, with certificates of insurance and after-hours dock access. See commercial junk removal.

How fast can you come out in Culver City?

Usually same day. We are open Monday to Saturday 24 hours and Sunday 1pm to 10pm. That is the main reason people call rather than waiting two weeks for the city.
